OCBR Education Center Policies

SCHOOL FACILITY

All classes are held at the school facility located at the Ocean County Board of REALTORS® building, 271 Lakehurst Road, Toms River, New Jersey. Free parking for students is available.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Every applicant for a license as a broker, broker-salesperson or salesperson shall be of the age of 18 years or over. Every applicant for a license whether as a real estate broker, broker-salesperson or salesperson shall have the equivalent of a high school education.

Every applicant for a license as a broker or broker-salesperson shall have first been the holder of a New Jersey real estate salesperson’s license and have been actively engaged on a full-time basis in the real estate brokerage business in the State for three years immediately preceding the date of application.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

You can register by phone (732-244-8111) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday; FAX your registration to 732-244-8390; Mail your registration to: Ocean County Board of REALTORS® Education Center, 271 Lakehurst Road, Toms River, N.J. 08755; Online Registration www.oceancountyrealtors.org ; or In Person at Ocean County Board of REALTORS®, 271 Lakehurst Road, Toms River, N.J.

When enrolled, a student will be accepted into the next available session. Should the student choose to purchase additional textbooks/workbooks through the school, these materials will be presented during the first session.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

The New Jersey Real Estate Commission requires successful completion of 75 instructional hours for a salesperson and 150 instructional hours for a broker as a prerequisite to admission to the state exam. Therefore, students must attempt to attend every session.   A student must achieve at least an 80% attendance rate in order to be graduated. Arriving more than20 minutes late or leaving more than 20 minutes early will count as a full hour absent. The school has no leave of absence policy. If a student must withdraw from a class after that course has been in session for 10 hours or more, the student may attend, at no cost, any class that commences within 12 months of the start of the original course. The student shall submit a written request to the School Director in advance to attend a subsequent session.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of the program.

Requirements are:

  • Complete 75 hours for salesperson; 150 hours for broker/salesperson training
  • Achieve at least an 80% overall attendance rate
  • Passing grade on final school examination
  • Financial obligations to school satisfied

RE-ADMITTANCE POLICY

Students who have voluntarily withdrawn from the School’s program prior to its completion or who were terminated from the School’s program due to unsatisfactory or academic progress may reapply to be accepted into the program at any time. Credit will be granted for attendance provided re-enrollment occurs within a twelve month time frame of the first day of the course the student originally attended. If re-enrollment occurs after twelve months have passed, then the student must enroll for and attend the complete program.

REFUND POLICY

All monies paid by the student will be fully refunded if the student chooses not to enroll in or to withdraw from the school within 7 calendar days prior to the start of first class. The school will require written notice 7 calendar days prior to the start of the first class for a tuition refund.

If a student discovers during the first 10 hours of the course after reviewing the screening questions that the student would have to withdraw from the course, a full refund minus the $50 registration fee will apply. After 10 hours of class time, a 50% refund will apply.

If the school closes, cancels or discontinues a course or program, the school will refund to each currently enrolled student all monies paid by the student for tuition.

HOLIDAY CLOSINGS

New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas

STUDENT CONDUCT POLICY

Students are required to dress and act in an ethical and professional manner. The school has the right to dismiss any student who fails to adhere to school policy.

STUDENT GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

Students who have a grievance with the School are encouraged to resolve the matter with the Instructor. If still unsatisfied, the grievance should be addressed to the School Director. If still unsatisfied, the student may submit a written complaint to the Ocean County Board of REALTORS®.

PRIVACY

Student information is confidential. No student addresses, telephone numbers or completion grades will be given out without the student’s written permission.

SMOKING

There is a “No Smoking” policy in the entire building. Students may smoke outside the building only during regular breaks.

FOOD

Food and drink may be permitted in the classroom at the discretion of the instructor. Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and placing food or beverage containers in the trash baskets provided. If the students do not clean up, the instructor is required to place a ban on food and drink in the classroom. No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the building.

CELL PHONES, PAGERS, LAPTOP COMPUTERS, ETC.

Noise making devices that are distracting such as cell phones, pagers, handheld computers, etc. should be turned off during class sessions. None of these devices may be used in hall ways or rest rooms while the class is in session. Use is confined to the lobby or outside during breaks only. Calculators are permitted but must be non-noise producing.

RECORDING DEVICES

Audio or video recording of any class session is prohibited.

RECRUITING

No recruiting for employment opportunities for any real estate brokerage firm is allowed in any class or on the school premises.
